DNCSA New Year Reception 2012

On 2 February 2012, Director NCSA, Lieutenant General Kurt Herrmann and his wife, Ursula, had the pleasure of holding an NCSA reception at their residence in Elouges, Belgium. In his welcome address, the Director wished everyone a Happy New Year and thanked them for their continued solidarity with NCSA. Even though the months ahead will be challenging, DNCSA looks to the future with optimism. »

Director NCSA's Annual Town Hall Speech

On 15 December 2011, Director NCSA, Lieutenant General Kurt Herrmann, gave his annual Town Hall speech at the SHAPE Alliance Auditorium. All NCSA Headquarters and Sector Mons personnel were invited to attend. DNCSA mentioned the theme for this year was ‘executing transformation with the least impact on current operations’ and this would remain for 2012. Next year will be a challenge for all NCSA personnel, and DNCSA reminded everyone that their continued commitment will be of critical importance. »

DNCSA’s End-of-Year Reception

On 6 December 2011, Director NCSA, Lieutenant General Kurt Herrmann and his wife, Ursula, welcomed National Military Representatives and senior staff from NATO Brussels, SHAPE and NCSA Headquarters, industry partners and honoured guests from the German community to their residence in Elouges, Belgium for an end-of-year reception. The reception was very pleasant and the Director’s guests appreciated the opportunity to meet colleagues and partners, as well as to socialise outside of the workplace. »

The NATO Communication and Information Systems Services Agency

Director NCSA

The NATO Communication and Information Systems Services Agency, NCSA, is a service provider to NATO and national customers. Wherever NATO deploys on operations or exercises, NCSA is there, providing communication and information systems (CIS) services in support of the mission. Equally important, NCSA supports NATO’s ten major static headquarters, as well as special centres in Europe, North America, and Asia.


NCSA provides core tasks, such as:

  • Operating, maintaining, controlling and administering the central components of NATO’s networks, providing coverage of mission essential systems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Providing strategic and policy advice to headquarters' leadership to ensure the efficient and effective use of CIS resources.
  • Providing secure and non-secure computer, telephone and video conference services to NATO's static headquarters.
  • Ensuring the compatibility of new CIS hardware and software on NATO’s networks.
  • Providing technical advice; installing computers, telephone and video conference equipment; conducting hardware and software maintenance; configuring and controlling networks; and providing training for personnel on NATO communication and information systems.

NCSA is dedicated to providing operational flexibility, rapid deployment, quick fault reaction and world-class customer support. The Agency does this by using fielded systems in the most cost-effective and efficient manner employing industry best practices.

Where does NCSA fit in the NATO Structure?

NCSA is part of the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Organization reporting to the North Atlantic Council.  NCSA works very closely with the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency, whose mission is to provide NATO with scientific support and common funded acquisition of Consultation, Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capabilities.

The Director of NCSA is accountable to NATO's Consultation, Command and Control Board for executing the general policy decisions, directives and strategy associated with providing CIS services throughout NATO. The Director is also accountable to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) for all operational, or deployed, CIS assets. »
