On 24 September, NCSA held its second annual Family Day event after the NCSA Open Day. The weather had cleared in the early afternoon, making for a perfect day. More than 700 NCSA personnel and their families attended and were welcomed by DNCSA LtGen Herrmann. He underlined the opportunity for meeting the "NCSA family" and invited all guests to take part in many activities, such as bull riding, Wellie Wanging (a distance rubber boot toss), and golf putting.
The exhibitions from Open Day continued to be open so that families had a chance to learn more about NCSA and its capabilities. Of particular interest to the older children was the Radio Routes set up by the First NATO Signal Battalion.
One child leads the other blindfolded child through a walking obstacle course using real radio equipment. The younger children enjoyed bouncy castles and face painting.
Delicious barbeque was served by the German NCO Association and beer and soft drinks were available. Music was provided by the Mayer’s House Band.
Additionally, families could take part in a raffle of over 100 prizes with all proceeds benefiting Share a Meal (SAM), a charity organization on SHAPE. A generous donation will be handed over to SAM in the coming days.
NCSA personnel and their families enjoyed a fun day together with their colleagues. It was a great success and to all those unable to attend, we hope to see you there next year!
