NORFOLK, Va. –NATO Communication and Information Systems Services Agency Sector Norfolk personnel, with the help of contractors, have begun to replace nearly 300 classified computer workstations in the headquarters, in addition to upgrading the software and migrating some 900 users into a single domain shared between ACT, Allied Command Operations, and their command elements.

The Telegraph Automatic Relay Equipment (TARE), which has provided NATO’s secure military message communications and its links to all the NATO nations for many years, was shut down at 1200Z on 31 March 2006. This was because the system has been superceded by more modern technology and new operating practices.
